School Band

The school has a bass guitar and amplifier, a trumpet and trombone for hire at a very reasonable cost ( $50 a semester) if your child is interested in learning one of these instruments. You will have to arrange individual tuition for the student. Please contact the school if interested.

Wagga Public has two bands that you're child can join, depending on their standard of playing. Advanced musicians can join the jazz band, and beginners join the beginner (understandably) band. As the players in the beginner band advance, they join the jazz band.

The Wagga Public School Jazz Band is always on the lookout for new students. If your child is interested in learning a brass or woodwind instrument such as listed below, please contact Dave Wall at the school. Tuition can be arranged through the Riverina Conservatorium of Music, whose teachers come to the school to give lessons. Rates are available here.

Of course, if you wish your child to learn elsewhere, that is fine. Our only condition on joining the bands is that the student is being taught their instrument by a private teacher as well as playing in the band.

Instruments available for School Jazz Band

The flute is a light instrument ideal for younger players. It is quiet and relatively easy to play. The Clarinet is also an easy instrument t o learn, and is not too heavy for younger children. The trumpet is popular with young students, and although it takes a little while to get a sound, progress can be fairly rapid after that. The Alto sax is smaller than it's cousin, the tenor sax. Similar in playing to a clarinet, it is a good instrument for Year 5 or 6 children.
